John Koene As a Landscape Contractor with over 14 years of experience, John enjoys works working closely with clients to create landscapes that integrates and blends into the existing environment. He matches their desires and lifestyles, while working with the site-specific growing conditions. Whether you desire an outdoor entertaining area, a private relaxing hideaway or maybe you need help enhancing an existing garden, his experience will ensure a healthy landscape that will both improve your properties value, and provide you with enjoyment for years to come. In addition to design and installation, John offers garden management and care, consultation, outdoor staging for events, and curb appeal planting for commercial sites.
Besides creating beautiful gardens for clients, John offers sheep grazing services as an inexpensive alternative for managing weeds and other vegetation. Using sheep to clear weeds is not only an eco-friendly method of vegetation management and land restoration, but for vineyards and orchards, sheep also fertilize the soil, making grazing a cost effective alternative for most farming operations.
A First Class Garden John has spent the last 14 years as a professional purveyor of landscape design. He started his career by pursuing his education at UC Santa Cruz, where he studied Agro-Ecology. He took a $4/hour job at a nearby organic farm two times a week, just “to keep my hands dirty” he says. In 1995 John and a client in Mill Valley worked closely together to design and install Three Groves Garden, which has been featured in many garden and house tours and is the quintessential sanctuary that inspires all who see it. “I remember in my first meeting with the owner Sheila Neilson, and I asked what her vision was for the garden? She responded “I want a First Class garden”. When I first started the property was covered under thick ivy. Well, I rose to the challenge and by unanimous opinion Three Groves is a first class garden. I’ve been able to create a beautiful refuge for my client, without having to alter the natural topography of the land.”
